Anthology, Volume 1

I Was Just a Kid

The Tim Gallant Anthology, Volume 1, stretches back to songs I wrote from 1980–1983 (my mid-teens, essentially). These are the songs penned when I was starting to find my way as a songwriter. Earliest influences included Don Francisco (and a wee bit of Elvis), which you may pick up on here and there, although there’s a bit more in the direction of pop rock toward the end of the collection.

Lyrics tended to gravitate around themes such as holiness and the need for Christ. Some of them definitely come across a bit … harsh, and there is absolutely no doubt that many of them manifest the immaturity one might expect from a youth.

To have something recorded for some of the better material, I did these rough recordings in the mid 2000s (~2007), although more recently I have done a bit of cleanup and remixing on some of them. Audio and lyrics below.

All recordings here are subject to possible future polishing.

1 Ain’t Just Singin & Dancin

View Lyrics

Chorus: 1980; verses: April 25, 1981

This recording was last updated November 2025.

So maybe you’ve been foolin’ around Doin’ just as you please
God’s gonna catch you somehow And then you’ll be sorry indeed!
Maybe by then you’ll learn to obey God’s Word
And He won’t have to teach it all over to you!

Chorus:
It ain’t just singin’ and dancin’, it ain’t just all Amazin’ Grace;
There’s gotta be some holiness in there too
It’s not all your laughin’ and playin’, it’s not the show of face
You gotta live holy to see the Lord.

Don’t try to sneak around God’s watchin’ you!
You can’t hide anything from Him... He sees everything you do
So if you wanna do somethin’ Just remember He sees you
And there’s nothin’ you can hide from Him!

[Repeat chorus]

No matter how far you go You still got some learnin’ to do
You’ll make it by God’s grace If you always keep true
But if you go on your own You’ll never make it that way
You’ll always be in the night And never in the day

[Repeat chorus]

2 So You Think You’re Tired

So, Christian, you think you’re tired So, Christian, you’re so weary?
What about all those sinners, so lost and dry?
Don’t you love them, don’t you care Or would you rather let them die?

Chorus:
So you think you’re tired from all the ways you’ve been goin’
Then you should know what’s goin’ on...
So many have been wanderin’ out in sin...
And you’re reluctant to hold out a helping hand!

So, Christian, you think you’re tired So, Christian, it’s so hard
What about the starvin’ millions You don’t seem to care about?
If you saw one, would you even Help him out?

[Repeat chorus]
So, Christian, you think you’re tired So, Christians, you’re alone
What about the ones you’re ignorin’ Not carin’ how they are?
Can’t you help them? - they need you What a Christian you are!

[Repeat chorus]

3 The Way

December 11, 1983

Yeah people say my mind is narrow But so is the way narrow
Cause the Word
Divideth the meat from the marrow
Of the bone

Chorus:
You can’t look to the right you can’t look to the left
Keep the Master in sight just follow in His steps
Oh, the way is narrow
Oh, the way is the way
Of the Lord and the Light
He’s the Saviour
Jesus Christ.

Yeah people say their way is lonely And yet they won’t follow the only
Inside man
They want to keep their eyes roaming
To and fro

[Repeat chorus]

4 He Is

August 5, 1981

He is love
He is Lord
He is mine
He is yours
He’s the keeper of my soul
The one who makes me whole
He’s the miracle maker
He’s the King of kings!
He’ll do anything - that’ll profit you
He’s the King of kings - just for you

He is life
He is joy
He is kind
He is true
He’s the Master, you know
He’s the most blessed Creator
He’ll keep your life
In His hand
He’s wonderful... He’s marvelous
He is your God... take Him now.

5 The Doorman

November 22, 1983

This recording was last updated November 2025.

Day passes by day The nights are gettin’ longer
What can I say But winter’s comin’ on
The clock on the wall of the heavens is tickin’ down
And we can sense the trumpet’s ‘bout to sound...

Chorus 1:
Without warnin’ the doorman to heaven and hell
Will break through the clouds
The time is gettin’ shorter to cross over the border
No time to lose He is watching you
No time to bid goodbyes just follow the light

Day passes by day The nights are gettin’ longer
In that great day He wants a Church with no wrong
The love He’s shown so long to us must be shining through
And we must show we’re faithful and true

[Repeat chorus 1]

Final chorus:
Without warnin’ the doorman to heaven and hell
Will break through the clouds
The time is gettin’ shorter and presently the porter
Must say - “No more -
The time has come to close the door.”

6 Are You Listenin’

View lyrics

Verses February 11, 1982; chorus July 15, 1984

Are you listenin’ to the Master Or are you wastin’ away your years
Are you doin’ what He wants you Or are you livin’ a life of fears
If you’re doin’ your own thing You’re headin’ for hell
You keep on livin’ like you are You’re not gonna do too well.

Are you listenin’ to the Saviour Are you heedin’ His constant pleas
Are you doin’ what He asks you Or are you livin’ like you please
If you move into His footsteps He’ll always keep you there
You keep on livin’ like you are Your future won’t be fair.

Chorus:
Are you listenin’ to the Most High
Or are you driftin’ in Satan’s lies
Are you walkin’ the way you should
Or are you just talkin’ sayin’ you’re good
Have you learned what is right
Or do you live in the night
Have you found it in yourself to hear His call
Are you listenin’ to the Greatest of them all?

Are you livin’ like a King’s kid Or are you laughin’ away your cares
That’s not the way you do it You gotta live a life of prayer
If you’re just goin’ through the motions And laughin’ your way to church
You better hurry and change your ways ‘Cause you’re just rollin’ in the dirt.

If you’re listenin’ to the lovin’ one If you’re livin’ holy and true
If you’re livin’ righteously And abstaining from what others do
If you keep the paths of the King And keep on livin’ this way
Your sins’ll be cast into the night And you’ll be walkin’ in the day!

[Repeat chorus]

Chorus:
This I know peace of mind don’t come with a bottle of wine
You may think so but I know it don’t my Jesus said it won’t
This I know peace of mind don’t come by walkin’ in the middle of the line
You may think so but that’s not right you gotta see the light.

You think you can do anything You think it’ll be all right
You think you can booze And heartache through the night
But that’s where you’re wrong Somethin’s comin’ along
You can’t handle alone
If you don’t hurry And change your ways
You’re gonna face the throne

[Repeat chorus]

You wanna know the truth tomorrow But you had better not wait
You think God is blind And cannot see your hate
But that’s where you’re wrong Somethin’s comin’ along
In the middle of your way
You better hurry And make haste
Your judgment is today!

[Repeat chorus]

Livin’ for you is my personal best
Walkin’ for you, talkin’ for you
Gainin’ new strength
Oh, livin’ for you, workin’ is rest
Livin’ for you is my personal best

Chorus:
Livin’ for you is my personal best
Workin’ for you - oh, what a rest
‘Cause how do you get any higher than best?
Livin’ for you is my personal best

Lovin’ for you those who have less
Shinin’ your light, givin’ new sight
To those in a mess
Oh, lovin’ for you, this is no jest
Lovin’ for you is my personal best

[Repeat chorus]

Walkin’ for Him is no matter of guess
Readin’ the Word, praisin’ the Lord
In the enemy’s dens
Oh, walkin’ for Him, standin’ the test
Walkin’ for Him is the spiritual best

[Repeat chorus]

Marchin’ for you, I see the hillcrest
Over it see heaven for me
Nearin’ the end
Oh, marchin’ for you, to happiness
Marchin’ for you toward the west

[Repeat chorus]

Chorus:
You need some love I’ll give you mine
You need some power I’ll give you mine
You need some rhyme I’ll give you mine
I’ll give you mine
Whatever you need
I’ll give you mine

You were sown in weakness You’ll be raised in power
You were bred in hatred You’ll be walkin’ in love
And though for all your life You’ve been walkin’ way outta line
Though you ain’t got it now I’ll give you mine.

[Repeat chorus]

I’m the One you’re seekin’ Though you don’t know it
I see you weak’nin’ Though you don’t show it
And though you’ve never darkened A church door
I see your heart I am your Lord.

[Repeat chorus]

10 To a Brother

June 24, 1983

Brother, I heard you criticize your neighbour today
Wouldn’t it be better just to pray?
I heard you open your mouth and call him names
When you should be showin’ him the way.

I walked away, your words ringin’ in my ears
My eyes brimmed up full of tears
My heart tugged inside me as I thought with dismay
On the words I’d heard a fellow Christian say.

Chorus:
Dear brother where is your love?
Dear brother just what you thinkin’ of?
This poor man needs your mercy yet you give him a knife
Isn’t it a bit early to take your own life?
Oh, don’t you have feelin’?
Brother, find words of healin’
You should be kneelin’
For your neighbour.

Brother, your neighbour needs some help from you
Don’t you see he knows everything you do?
How come you haven’t yet told him the truth?
Remember, once you were just like him, too.

Don’t you think it’s time you grew up and started shining
Why keep pretending you’re the silver lining?
God wants you to go to your neighbour, swallow your self-righteous pride
Just go and show him why... our Lord died.

[Repeat chorus]

Lonely heart in a lonely valley What are you lookin’ for?
Where you are is a blind dark alley Death waits at ev’ry door
Oh, lonely heart Cryin’ for a piece of bread
Lonely heart Dyin’ but the blood’s been shed.

Chorus:
Lonely heart don’t you doubt there’s a way to get out
Oh, when your heart is feelin’ blue there’s a love to keep you true
‘Cause everything changes when His love falls on you.

Lonely heart, you’re lost in sorrow You cannot find your way
Readin’ stars, you fear tomorrow Jesus holds ev’ry day
Oh, when your heart Is falling down the stairs
Don’t come apart Jesus is standing there.

[Repeat chorus]

Lonely heart, the way is narrow Stick to it straight and true
Insofar He holes the sparrow He can take care of you
Oh, lonely heart He forgives what you done
Just to start He’s given you His Son

[Repeat chorus]

12 He’s Got to Run

I’ve left it all behind me Don’t need it anymore
So now you’re gonna find me A-closer to the Lord
The devil’s tried to blind me But I refuse his lies
I tell him get behind me But still he tries and tries.
But...

Chorus:
He’s got to run when you got the Son
The Bible say resist the devil and he’ll flee from you
Yeah, he’s got to lose
And you’ll be a whole lot stronger
Don’t take his lies any longer
Cause he’s got to run, yeah, he’s got to run
Run from you
With Jesus, there’s nothin’ he can do.

The devil’s tried to fool me But I can tell he’s phony
So I won’t let him rule me I can see through his baloney
‘Cause now I got the Holy Ghost To resist the devil
I’m guided by a heavenly host I’m far above his level.
‘Cause...

[Repeat chorus]

So if you’ve been weakened Cry out in desperation
Just hear the Spirit speakin’ Satan can’t stand His revelations
But he’s got to run When you speak God’s Word
He won’t be havin’ fun When you make it heard
‘Cause...

[Repeat chorus]

If you’ve been growin’ lonesome There’s someone to take your fear
His love is only wholesome He wants you to know He’s near
He will take your hurtin’ And make you whole again
Erase all you been learnin’ Free you from your sin.

Chorus:
Feel the love flowing from the Fountain
You can ease your mind
He’s heard the cries you been soundin’
The yearnin’ from deep inside
If you have a heart to mend,
He’s gentle as a dove
He’ll be your friend
Just feel the love.

You see, His love is holy And His arms are opened wide
You will never be lonely As long as He’s by your side
He’s firm and yet He’s gentle This Jesus from above
He’ll give you His mantle Make you free to love.

[Repeat chorus]

Look around, see them sleepin’ Cryin’, wailin’ in despair
They should not be weepin’ When somebody cares
Gotta go out and tell them You know they’ve had enough
Bring them to His realm Show them the love.

City lights are hard to fight
I oughtta know ‘cause I live in the city
There’s so many things to draw a young lad away
And if ya fight ‘em they can bite ya
Turn away, young lad, turn away
And yet...

Chorus:
There’s an answer to our problems a solution
A man called Jesus has changed the lives of some I know
Like a revolution of the spirit of men
He’ll take away our woe.

Jesus Christ has brought some light
And now our lives are so much richer
It’s so easy with Him leading the way
And He will guide us - always beside us
Because...

[Repeat chorus]

Bridge:
City city that claimed so many good young boys
City city God woke us up and we heard the noise
And now we got the answer from out of His mouth
We found out we got a reason to shout

[Repeat chorus]

15 Can’t Make It On My Own

I’ve tried all my life to serve You
Was hopin’ that I could learn to
And where’d it get me?
I’m turnin’ it to You
There’s nothin’ I can do —

Chorus:
Jesus I need You
I can’t make it on my own
I tried for way too long
Jesus I see now
I can’t take it anymore
So here’s my heart
My will
I been away too long [me]

I’ve fought with my sin but in vain
I’ve lost everything again
And oh how I’ve tried
I’ve needed someone
To get the battle won —

[Repeat chorus]

It’s plainer than day you’re strugglin’
You feel there’s no way but runnin’
I gotta tell you
Jesus is the way
Just turn to Him and say —

[Repeat chorus]

16 I Can Always Depend On You

The promises of yesterday You make come true
As God my Saviour I know that what You set Your hand to
You will do
I can always depend on You.

Chorus:
I can always depend on You
When in trouble or feelin’ blue
As King of kings, you’re ever in control
And it’s satisfying to know
I can always depend on You.

We hear of wars every day Millions left to die
Yet through it all, we know Though we always tend to pick sides
The outcome Will always depend on you.

[Repeat chorus]

Lord Jesus, now I’m surely bound To let others know
They can take Your hand Instead of stumbling in the darkness, falling down
Why continue When they can always depend on You?

[Repeat chorus]
